2025 Us Open Mixed Doubles Competition

New York, NY – Tennis fans are reacting to multiple high-profile withdrawals from the 2025 US Open mixed doubles event, including top players Tommy Paul, Emma Navarro, and Paula Badosa.

The USTA announced that the mixed doubles competition will take place on August 19 and 20 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The revamped event promises $1 million in prize money and showcases unique pairings of popular singles stars.

However, these recent withdrawals threaten to change the landscape of the competition. Jessica Pegula, who was set to partner with Paul, is now paired with Jack Draper, with a combined singles ranking of 9. Badosa’s exit from her partnership with Draper due to a lingering back injury adds urgency for new pairings.

Navarro withdrew to focus on the WTA 500 Monterrey Open, leaving ATP World No. 1 Jannik Sinner needing a new partner before the August 17 deadline. The pressure is mounting, with many fearing that the shuffle may diminish the quality of play expected from mixed doubles.

The USTA garnered attention for promoting this format, designed to attract fans with unconventional matchups, including potential teams like Naomi Osaka with Nick Kyrgios and Iga Swiatek with Casper Ruud. However, the unexpected changes have frustrated our fanbase, leading to mixed emotions on social media.

Fans expressed their concerns on X, questioning the management of the tournament. Many suggested that the event might be better suited for professional doubles players rather than relying solely on singles stars. One user remarked, “Stop pretending this is legit. This is dumb and just stops the real mixed doubles professionals.”

As of August 15, some pairings have been finalized, including Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud ranked 12 and Elena Rybakina with Taylor Fritz at 15, adding intrigue to the remaining draws. The pressure is now on teams to perform at a high level amid the significant changes.

With the entry deadline fast approaching, the USTA and competing players will race against the clock to finalize their rosters for the event, which promises to deliver excitement and unpredictability for tennis fans.
