Minnesota Primary Election Results Are In

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) – Minnesotans took to the polls on Tuesday, August 13th, to voice their opinions in the primary elections. This election featured partisan races for Congress, the Minnesota Legislature, as well as local county, city, and school board elections.

In the U.S. House races, the spotlight was on Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District where incumbent Ilhan Omar faced off against Don Samuels. In Minnesota’s First Congressional District, Brad Finstad secured the Republican nomination and will take on Rachel Bohman, the uncontested Democratic nominee. Meanwhile, Angie Craig won the Democratic nomination for Minnesota’s Second Congressional District and will face Republican Joe Teirab, making this race one of the most competitive in November.

Angie Craig expressed her commitment to representing her district, highlighting her deep connection to the community and criticizing her opponent Joe Teirab for his recent move to the area, suggesting it was merely a political strategy. Teirab, who has received support from notable figures like former President Donald Trump, also voiced his eagerness to challenge Craig on various issues like inflation and public safety.

In other notable races, incumbent Betty McCollum won her primary, and U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar is projected to win her Democratic primary after defeating Don Samuels. Omar raised significant funds for her campaign, illustrating her preparedness compared to the last election cycle.

Tom Emmer and Pete Stauber also secured their nominations for U.S. House in Minnesota’s Sixth and Eighth Congressional Districts respectively and will face their respective challengers in November.

In the U.S. Senate, incumbent Amy Klobuchar easily won her Democratic primary against several opponents while Royce White emerged victorious in the Republican primary, setting up a contest as Klobuchar seeks her fourth term.

At the state level, the control of the Minnesota Senate is at stake this November, particularly with a special election for District 45 after Democrat Kelly Morrison’s resignation. Ann Johnson Stewart won that Democratic primary and will face Republican Kathleen Fowke.
