NECO Releases 2024 SSCE Results with Over 60% Passing Rate
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results. Reports confirm that the results can now be accessed online, with a requirement for a token to check them.
The Registrar of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed that 60.55% of candidates achieved five credits and above, specifically in English Language and Mathematics, during a press briefing at NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
NECO’s new system for accessing results involves purchasing a result checker token, replacing the previous scratch card system. The token allows for the results to be checked up to five times, after which further checks would necessitate using the NECO E-Verify result verification portal.
In the 2024 SSCE examination, a total of 1,376,436 candidates attended. Out of these, 828,284 candidates secured credits in both English and Mathematics, representing 60.55% of those examined. Additionally, 83.9% of candidates obtained five credits and above, regardless of their scores in English and Mathematics.
The examination took place from June 19th to July 26th, 2024, with marking finalized by September 8th, 2024. Despite some delays resulting in admission issues for students hoping to enter university in the current academic year, the results were published 55 days after the final exam day.
NECO reported a reduction in examination malpractice cases, with only 8,437 incidents recorded in 2024 compared to 12,030 in 2023. The highest performances were recorded in Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi states, while Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, and Zamfara were the lowest performing regions.
A NECO official emphasized the importance of the “result checker token,” stating that it would be required for viewing this year’s results. As explained, once a token has been used five times for a specific result, candidates needing further access must utilize the NECO E-Verify portal.
