New York Issues 2025-2026 COVID Vaccine Guidance for All Ages

NEW YORK (WBNG) — Governor Kathy Hochul announced the 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccine guidance for New York State, urging vaccination for nearly all residents, including children ages 6 months to 18 years, adults, and high-risk individuals. The announcement comes as the state prepares for a federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) meeting to review national vaccine recommendations.
“Vaccines remain one of the strongest tools we have to safeguard our families and our communities,” Hochul stated. “As Washington continues to launch its misguided attacks on science, New York is making it clear that every resident will have access to the COVID vaccine, no exceptions.”
The guidance aligns with recommendations from the Northeast Public Health Collaborative, which consists of states like New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts, among others. It also mirrors guidelines from prominent health organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Earlier this month, Hochul signed an Executive Order that allows pharmacists to prescribe and administer COVID-19 vaccines, ensuring New Yorkers have continued access to vaccinations amidst changing federal guidelines.
New York State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald emphasized the importance of vaccines, affirming, “Vaccines save lives, and this guidance ensures every New Yorker from our youngest children to those at highest risk has safe, reliable access to the COVID vaccine.” He encourages residents to get both flu and COVID-19 vaccines, stressing that guidance should come from medical professionals.
As federal agencies face increased skepticism among citizens, McDonald suggested focusing on advice from trusted healthcare providers rather than political figures, highlighting the expertise and care that medical professionals provide.
