New Zombie Film Promises a Thrilling Sequel with Star-Studded Cast

NEW YORK, NY — Actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson and co-star Jodie Comer joined director Danny Boyle at an event for their upcoming zombie film, 28 Years Later, in New York on Sunday. The premiere is set for June 19, marking a long-awaited sequel in the franchise.
Aaron, 34, graced the red carpet sporting a stylish beige ensemble, including an open shirt that revealed his bushy beard and hairy chest. He accessorized with a gold necklace and a flashy Omega watch, following a recent endorsement deal. Jodie, 32, complemented his look in a flowing black blouse paired with bell-bottoms.
Set nearly three decades after the original film, 28 Years Later will explore how communities have adapted following the devastating Rage virus outbreak. According to Aaron, who plays Jamie, the film introduces a new society living on an isolated land called The Holy Island. This community is self-sufficient, only leaving to hunt on the mainland during low tide.
In a new featurette, Aaron explained, “They don’t have doctors or medicine, can only eat what they can grow, and if you leave the island and don’t return, they assume you’ve been infected and are dead.” His character must train his son Spike to survive in the wilderness for a critical mission.
The film was shot on Lindisfarne, a real-life island accessible only during low tide. Alongside Aaron and Jodie, Ralph Fiennes stars as Dr. Kelson, a survivor of the outbreak.
The original 28 Days Later featured Cillian Murphy as a man awakening to a world devastated by a virus. Speculation arose about Murphy’s return in this sequel, but producer Andrew Macdonald confirmed he won’t appear in this film. However, he hinted at a potential return in future installments.
With a $75 million budget, 28 Years Later is noted as a significant filmmaking moment, being shot predominantly with iPhones.
