Excitement filled the air in Kitchener as a large crowd eagerly gathered for a chance to secure solar eclipse glasses ahead of Monday’s anticipated celestial event. The giveaway event hosted by Bell Media drew hundreds of early risers who lined up outside the venue in hopes of obtaining these sought-after glasses.

The line of people wrapped around the building, showcasing the high demand for a limited number of glasses available. By 1 p.m., all the glasses had been distributed, leaving many without this crucial piece of equipment for safe viewing of the solar eclipse.

Amidst the frenzy, reports emerged warning the public about counterfeit glasses in circulation that had not received approval from the American Astronomical Society. Individuals who had purchased these glasses were strongly advised against using them during the eclipse to prevent any harm to their eyes.

It was emphasized that legitimate solar viewing glasses must feature filtered lenses that meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard for safety and viewing quality.
