Paul Walter Hauser Joins New ‘Resident Evil’ Film By Zach Cregger
LOS ANGELES, CA — Paul Walter Hauser is set to star in the upcoming ‘Resident Evil‘ film, directed by Zach Cregger, scheduled for release on September 18, 2026. Following the successful release of his horror film ‘Weapons’, Cregger is adapting the popular Capcom video game series that involves an elite task force combating zombies.
Hauser’s casting was confirmed by several sources, and he will star alongside Austin Abrams. The film, produced by Constantin Film, Vertigo Entertainment, and PlayStation Productions, aims to stay true to the game’s storyline which features a mix of horror, sci-fi, and action.
The producers of the film include Robert Kulzer of Constantin Film, Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, and Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions. TriStar Pictures‘ Nicole Brown is overseeing the project for Sony.
While details about the plot remain under wraps, past installments of the ‘Resident Evil’ franchise featured a mixture of horror and action, following a strong female protagonist who battles the malevolent Umbrella Corporation. The previous films in the series have grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide, making it one of the most successful video game film adaptations.
Hauser is coming off a busy summer with notable roles in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ and ‘Naked Gun‘, and his performance in Apple TV+’s ‘Black Bird’ earned him critical acclaim. He expressed a thoughtful approach to role selection, saying, “I feel way too competitive and way too hungry to eat garnish and pretend it’s a meal.”
This new ‘Resident Evil’ project reflects a fresh direction for the franchise, as Cregger aims to adhere closely to the original games’ narrative and themes.
