Plusnet Broadband Outage Leaves Users Stranded
Plusnet, a subsidiary of BT Group PLC, experienced a major service outage that left thousands of users across the country unable to access the internet. The disruption occurred on Monday afternoon, which proved to be incredibly inconvenient for users trying to go about their daily activities.
Users quickly took to DownDetector, a tracking website, to report the issue. The problem seemed to originate from Plusnet’s DNS servers, which are responsible for directing computers to the correct website servers in order to display the desired content. The issue was widespread, with reports pouring in from all corners of the country.
Fortunately, some tech-savvy users were able to find a temporary fix by manually switching their DNS servers to alternatives provided by Google. However, Plusnet advised caution before attempting such changes, stating that only proficient users should proceed with modifying operating system settings. It might be wise for less tech-savvy individuals to wait until the system is fully restored.
At the time of writing, Plusnet had not addressed the outage on its social channels and had not responded to inquiries from The Independent. The company’s website does offer a customer support section where users can lodge complaints and seek assistance.
Plusnet, known for its reliable wifi and mobile network services, shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) that it was actively investigating the cause of the outage. Unfortunately, there was no estimated time for resolution provided, but the company assured customers that it was working diligently to fix the issue and apologized for any inconvenience caused.
