Quaker Recalls Granola Bars And Cereals Due To Salmonella Exposure

Quaker Canada is voluntarily recalling 38 varieties of granola bars and Harvest Crunch cereals due to the potential exposure to salmonella. This action is being taken in Canada out of an abundance of caution and commitment to the wellbeing of our Canadian consumers, as initiated by the Quaker Oats Company in the United States. The recalled products have been distributed across Canada. Consumers are being advised to check their pantries for any of the listed products and dispose of them, as consuming them is not recommended. Quaker Canada is working closely with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to ensure the removal of the recalled products from the marketplace.

The Canadian government has warned that food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but it can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk of contracting serious and potentially deadly infections. Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

The parent company, Quaker Oats, which is owned by PepsiCo, initially announced the product recall on December 15, 2023, in the United States. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration considers this recall to be an expansion of the previous one.
