Quebec and Ontario Brace for Extreme Heatwave
Quebec and Ontario are preparing for an upcoming extreme heatwave that is expected to hit the regions this week. With temperatures soaring and humidity levels rising, both provinces are taking measures to ensure the safety and well-being of their residents.
The Parc Multisports in Quebec will be open for water games to provide relief from the scorching heat. This initiative aims to offer a cool and fun environment for individuals to escape the high temperatures.
Environment Canada has issued alerts for Southern Ontario, predicting dangerously hot and humid weather for the majority of the week. Toronto, Windsor, and other areas are expected to experience temperatures ranging from 30°C to 35°C, with humidex values reaching between 40 and 45.
In Northern Ontario, including Sudbury, the humidity index is forecasted to climb as high as 36 to 42 from Monday to Wednesday. The agency also warns of deteriorating air quality, potentially elevating the air health index to a high-risk category.
Special precautions are advised for vulnerable groups such as seniors, infants, young children, pregnant women, and individuals with respiratory conditions who are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses. It is essential to never leave individuals or pets in parked vehicles during such extreme conditions.
The Ville de Toronto has provided guidelines to help residents cope with the heatwave, including staying hydrated, seeking shade, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours. Emergency services are available, with the recommendation to contact 911 in case of urgent situations.
