Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Southern Alberta
Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of Southern Alberta, including Foothills County.
Thunderstorms originating from Idaho and Montana are advancing northward and are anticipated to reach Alberta this evening.
The agency warns that these storms have the potential to produce strong wind gusts and large hail, which may lead to property damage and could blow vehicles off the roadways.
According to the Environment Canada website, additional watches may be issued further north, depending on how the storms evolve throughout the evening.
Residents are advised that conditions are favorable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail. Storms from states such as Montana, Idaho, and Minnesota are expected to enter Western Canada. When these storms cross the U.S. border early this evening, some of them may be severe.
Environment Canada emphasizes the importance of safety, reminding residents that, “When thunder roars, go indoors.”
