Ticketmaster Sets to Pioneer Apple’s Enhanced Wallet Tickets for iOS 18
Ticketmaster announced on October 10, 2024, that it will become the first ticketing company to implement Apple’s upgraded Apple Wallet tickets, introduced with iOS 18. These enhanced tickets aim to provide users with a comprehensive set of features including event details, such as a map of the venue, parking information, recommended playlists from Apple Music, local weather forecasts, and tools for easy location sharing among attendees. Venues and teams utilizing these features have the option of embedding links to their apps or websites directly within the tickets.
The inaugural event to incorporate these upgraded tickets will be the Los Angeles Football Club game against an unspecified opponent, scheduled for October 19 at BMO Stadium. Subsequently, the Miami Heat is listed as the “next to debut” the new ticket experience, although Ticketmaster has yet to provide a definitive date. The ticket company has indicated plans for a broader rollout of the enhanced ticketing system in 2025, assuring a wider audience will benefit from the new capabilities.
Initially outlined in a Ticketmaster blog post, the updated features reflect the broader enhancements made to Apple Wallet with its latest iOS 18 rollout. Besides the ticket features, Apple Wallet also includes a faster money transfer feature among other updates. The introduction of Apple Intelligence, noted to be a significant part of iOS 18, is yet to receive its debut.
The collaboration between Ticketmaster and Apple appears to be mutually beneficial, with Ticketmaster prominently featured in promotional images, suggesting a formal agreement in place to support the launch campaign. As companies continue to leverage digital technology for improved user experiences, Ticketmaster’s early adoption signals a shift toward integrating more interactive elements into ticketing processes.
As these enhancements are likely to become available to other ticketing companies, Ticketmaster’s initial adoption may set a precedent within the industry, influencing how events are digitally experienced across various platforms.
