Donald Trump Pardons Clemency News

Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump issued pardons this week to several individuals convicted of crimes ranging from public corruption to gun offenses. Officials say these pardons are part of a broader trend of clemency actions taken by Trump, who has often bypassed traditional processes in favor of using his direct powers.

Among the notable individuals pardoned was Michael Grimm, a former congressman from New York. Grimm, who served seven months in prison for tax evasion almost a decade ago, had made headlines for a notorious threat against a reporter in 2014.

Grimm had been working as a commentator for Newsmax and faced significant challenges following a serious injury in a polo competition last year.

In addition, Trump commuted the sentences of nine others, including Larry Hoover, the co-founder of the Gangster Disciples, who was serving six life sentences for running a criminal enterprise. Hoover, now 74, had sought a commutation for years. His attorney, Justin Moore, stated, “We did what so many said was impossible.”

Hoover also faces additional state murder charges, but those remain unaffected by the recent federal actions. Other individuals granted commutations included Lawrence Duran, Michael Harris, and Marian Morgan.

Furthermore, Trump signed full pardons for a reality TV couple convicted of defrauding banks and committing tax crimes. This couple was sentenced to lengthy prison terms in 2022 for their roles in a broader scheme.

More pardons may be on the way, as Trump’s new pardon attorney, Ed Martin, is currently reviewing numerous applications made for clemency.
