Villanova Announces $10 Million Renovation for Connelly Center

VILLANOVA, Pa. (May 5, 2025) – Villanova University is set to renovate the Connelly Center, a student hub and gathering space that has served the campus community for 45 years. The renovation comes with a generous $10 million gift from the Connelly Foundation, the building’s original donors.
The Connelly Center, constructed in 1980 with initial funding from the Connelly Foundation, aims to maintain its unique character while enhancing it to meet today’s student needs. The foundation’s gift brings its total contributions to Villanova to over $44 million.
“Since its opening, the Connelly Center has been central to Villanova’s student experience, and our goal with the renovation is to ensure it remains a vibrant hub for our community,” said University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD. He expressed gratitude for the Connelly Foundation’s ongoing support.
The renovation will improve dining, gathering, and event spaces, as well as accessibility throughout the building. Work is scheduled to begin this summer and will finish by Fall 2025. A new Commons area, named in honor of Emily C. Riley, will be included on the ground floor.
With the opening of Villanova’s Cabrini Campus in Fall 2026, the Connelly Center will play an increasingly vital role as a central hub for students traveling between campuses. The upgraded facilities are designed to better serve current and future Villanova students.
“The Connelly Center is more than just a building; it’s a testament to the enduring impact of Catholic education,” said Tom Riley, Chair of the Board and President of the Connelly Foundation. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the legacy of his grandparents through this revitalization.
This renovation is part of a larger effort at Villanova to enhance student experiences, strengthen community bonds, and foster collaborative environments.
