Washington Spirit Angel City Fc Match

Los Angeles, Calif. (09/17/2025) – The Washington Spirit will conclude a two-match road stretch on Thursday night by facing Angel City FC at BMO Stadium. The match is set to start at 10:30 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network and streamed on Monumental+.

After achieving a shutout against the league-leading Kansas City Current last weekend, the Spirit secured a critical point on the road, increasing their gap over third place. With six matches left in the regular season, Washington holds a six-point advantage over the second-place team.

Captain Aubrey Kingsbury recorded her seventh clean sheet of the season against Kansas City, becoming the first player in league history to achieve a regular-season clean sheet against all 14 active NWSL clubs. Meanwhile, Tara McKeown, a finalist for the 2024 Defender of the Year, is poised to make her 100th NWSL regular-season appearance.

Washington brings an eight-match unbeaten streak into this contest, featuring three wins and five draws in regular-season play. Despite the streak, scoring on the road has been difficult, as the team has been shut out in four of its last five away matches, though it has managed three clean sheets.

The Spirit also boasts a seven-match unbeaten streak in California, having gone 4-0-3 since the start of the 2023 season, with recent back-to-back wins in Los Angeles. A result on Thursday would mark three consecutive seasons without a loss in the state for the Spirit.

Unfortunately for Washington, they will be without midfielder Hal Hershfelt, who is suspended after receiving a red card last week. This will be their first match without her since early May, when she returned from an ankle injury.

Offensively, the Spirit ranks high in several categories, including goals, assists, and possession, compared to Angel City, who is in the middle of the pack but leads in shots and shots on target. Washington aims to focus on maintaining possession and generating quality scoring opportunities.

Angel City FC is currently 11th in the standings, just three points shy of the playoffs. Earlier this season, they won a thrilling 4-3 match against the Spirit in DC. Angel City’s team effort has been evident, with nine different players scoring against Washington throughout their history.

Leading the scoring for Angel City is rookie Riley Tiernan, who has eight goals this season. The club recently lost key player Alyssa Thompson to a transfer to Chelsea in England.

Following the match, Angel City will visit Racing Louisville FC on September 27.

The all-time series record favors the Spirit at 4-3-0 against Angel City, including back-to-back wins in Los Angeles. The Spirit looks to build momentum as they aim for a strong finish to the season.
