Weather Alert: Rainy Weekend Ahead for Boston Area

BOSTON, Mass. — As May arrives, residents of the Boston area brace for a complicated weekend forecast. April brought mostly rainy weekends, and it seems the pattern continues into May.
This weekend’s weather will depend on timing and location. Friday will begin with showers and possible thunderstorms before dawn due to a warm front passing through. By midday, parts of the area will experience sunshine and warm temperatures approaching 80 degrees, especially in MetroWest and southern New Hampshire.
However, southeastern Massachusetts may feel cooler and foggy due to a south-southwesterly wind. A slight chance for isolated late-day showers or storms exists in areas northwest of Boston.
Saturday is labeled a NEXT Weather Alert Day as a warm and humid air mass remains in place. Early morning low clouds and fog will persist, particularly over southeastern Massachusetts and parts of southern Rhode Island. By late morning, skies should clear in most areas, allowing temperatures to rise again to near 80 degrees.
However, the humidity will make it feel muggy, and showers and thunderstorms are predicted in the afternoon for areas well northwest of Boston. Concerned areas include the Berkshires and parts of northern Worcester, Middlesex, Essex counties, southern Vermont, and southern New Hampshire, where localized flooding may occur.
Sunday’s forecast remains uncertain as a frontal boundary could linger over New Hampshire and Vermont. If it stays there, warm and humid conditions may continue; otherwise, Boston could be cooler and cloudier with scattered storms and highs in the 60s.
Outdoor enthusiasts are advised to keep an eye on forecasts, especially since a significant atmospheric event may be on the horizon early next week. Meteorologist Terry Eliasen of WBZ-TV noted the possibility of a large area of low pressure that could lead to several days of rainfall in New England, potentially resulting in a weather pattern shift.
