Lakers Explore Trades Before NBA Draft Amid Rumors on Utah Players

Los Angeles, CA — The Los Angeles Lakers are actively looking for a new center ahead of the NBA Draft, as trade rumors intensify. One player they have reportedly missed out on is Kristaps Porzingis, traded by the Boston Celtics to the Atlanta Hawks.
John Collins of the Utah Jazz has been linked with a potential move to Los Angeles. However, sources indicate that the Lakers are not pursuing a trade for Collins, despite previous rumors. Information from NBA insiders Jake Fischer and Marc Stein suggests that the Lakers are not interested in acquiring Collins, who has struggled to find a solid market.
“To reiterate an item from Monday night’s notes: The Lakers, I’m told, are not pursuing a trade for Utah’s John Collins despite reports suggesting otherwise,” Stein wrote.
Collins, who has a player option worth $26.5 million for next season, has been in trade discussions since being dealt from the Atlanta Hawks to the Jazz in July 2023. Over his eight seasons, Collins has started 410 games and averaged 19 points and 8.2 rebounds last season, but his trade market appears to be uncertain as the draft approaches.
While Collins may not be on their radar, the Lakers are reportedly interested in Jazz center Walker Kessler. According to details from the Salt Lake Tribune, the Lakers might consider giving up multiple draft picks for him. Kessler, still early in his career, may be a more feasible option given his contract situation and potential value.
The deadline for Collins to activate his player option is approaching, putting additional pressure on the Jazz as the draft looms. As teams finalize their rosters, the Lakers continue to weigh their options regarding trade opportunities.
