Austin’s Exciting Weekend: Festivals, Live Music, and Celebrations Await

AUSTIN, Texas — This weekend promises a lively blend of festivals and live music as Austin gears up for a packed agenda. Jam band Phish takes the stage at the Moody Center on June 27 for two electrifying nights, showcasing their signature psychedelic sound in support of their latest album, Evolve.

Meanwhile, the five-day Austin Asian American Film Festival kicks off on June 26 at the AFS Cinema. The festival will feature films like the opening night selection All That We Love, starring renowned comedian Margaret Cho. Festival-goers can find tickets and a full schedule on the festival’s website.

Comedy fans won’t want to miss Rich Vos, who will be performing new material at Comedy Mothership throughout the weekend. Vos, known for his appearances on Comedy Central, is set to delight audiences with his humor.

On June 28, Pease Park Conservancy and Future Front Texas host a Pride Month celebration, featuring a market with LGBTQ+ vendors, food trucks, and live DJ sets. Admission to this picnic event is free and open to the community.

The Annual Austin African American Book Festival also takes place on June 28 at the George Washington Carver Museum. This year’s headlining author is Walter Mosley, who will engage in discussions about literature alongside publisher Paul Coates. Admission to the festival is free.

Additionally, Star Bar celebrates 30 years of business with a special event featuring limited-edition merchandise, nostalgic food, and special cocktails from 1995. This party also has free admission.

Rock band Blue October is set to perform at the Moody Amphitheater that same day, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their live concert film and album, Argue With A Tree.

Summer fun continues as The SpongeBob Musical hits the Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave from July 16 to August 16. All performances will be free, with a special focus on accessibility for those in need. Wednesdays will be dedicated to senior accessibility nights, while Thursdays will feature ASL interpretation.

The musical follows the beloved characters from the TV show as they face a volcano threatening their home, Bikini Bottom. This production aims to charm both children and adults, showcasing a diverse array of music and vibrant performances.
