Blue Jays Fans Experience Highs and Lows After ALCS Tickets Sell Out
TORONTO, Canada – It has been an emotional day for Toronto Blue Jays fans following the team’s 3-1 victory over the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series. As fans celebrated the team’s advancement to the AL Championship Series (ALCS), many faced disappointment after tickets for the upcoming games sold out within moments on Ticketmaster.
Early Thursday morning, thousands of eager fans logged onto Ticketmaster for a chance to secure seats for the ALCS home games. However, many were left empty-handed, as tickets quickly disappeared and are now being resold at significantly higher prices, some exceeding $1,000.
After clinching their series against the Yankees with a 5-2 win in Game 4, the Blue Jays celebrated in style in New York City, with music and champagne filling the air. Star outfielder George Springer declared his pride in the team’s performance, stating, “This is why you play the game. This is incredible. So happy for our city, our fans,” during a post-game interview.
The Blue Jays are now set to play at home in the Rogers Centre against either the Detroit Tigers or Seattle Mariners in the ALCS. Game 1 is scheduled for October 12, with Game 2 on October 13, and a possible Game 6 on October 19 and Game 7 on October 20.
Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. emphasized the need for the team to maintain their momentum, saying, “The year is not finished. We have eight more [games] to go.” His excitement was also evident in a recent interview, where he celebrated the team’s success with the exclamation, “Daaa Yankees lose!”
The atmosphere at Scotiabank Arena reflected the excitement from the Blue Jays’ win on the big screen, coinciding with the Maple Leafs‘ victory against the Montreal Canadiens earlier in the night. Toronto’s next games are not the only source of excitement; the City of Toronto announced that free viewing parties will be held at David Pecaut Square for the postseason. If the Blue Jays reach the World Series, additional parties will be hosted at Nathan Phillips Square.
Fans secured a glimmer of hope as Blue Jays owner Rogers announced the giveaway of 500 free ALCS tickets for each home game throughout the postseason, sparking a rush among fans eager to participate in the celebration.
Some fans, like Dave Turliuk, who waited in the virtual lines for tickets, expressed their relief after successfully securing their spots. “Got online at 9:30 a.m. and I think I yelled yippee at 10:45 a.m.,” he shared.
In the 2016 postseason, the Blue Jays fell short of the World Series, but this year’s team aims to break that concern and capture their first championship since back-to-back wins in 1992 and 1993. As for the current season, every game counts towards their quest.
