Australia‘s digital ID initiative has made significant strides in recent months, with an emphasis on integrating upcoming ID credentials into the government services app myGov. Minister for Government Services, Bill Shorten, notes that myGov aims to become a central hub for accessing various government services, building on its current integration with the Medicare card.

Shorten announced the inclusion of veteran’s cards on the myGov app, providing 300,000 veterans access to essential services, claims submission, and support payments for home care. Following Senate approval in April, negotiations with federal states are ongoing to access their driver’s licenses, as highlighted by Finance Minister Katy Gallagher‘s recent meeting with State Governments.

MyGov has recently introduced passkey logins to enhance security, addressing previous concerns regarding vulnerability to scams and fraud. The government has allocated substantial funding to maintain and develop myGov, emphasizing its importance in delivering efficient digital services.

Additionally, the national digital identity program is set to launch in July, with a significant portion of the budget dedicated to enhancing the myGovID platform. The Trust Framework Authority in New Zealand is also live, determining accredited organizations for digital verification purposes.
