Bend City Council Adopts New Development Rules and Seeks Feedback on Urban Growth Boundary Expansion
The Bend City Council has recently adopted new development rules aimed at encouraging more housing construction in the city. These new rules align with recent state laws designed to address the housing shortage. The council’s move is part of a broader effort to fast-track housing development on city land, although it has raised concerns among some community members about the potential impact on local infrastructure and services.
In addition to the new development rules, the City of Bend is also seeking community feedback on a proposed one-time expansion of the Urban Growth Boundary (UGB). Two potential sites, each spanning 100 acres, are under consideration for this expansion. The city is inviting residents to provide their input on these sites as part of its planning process.
The UGB expansion is a significant step for the city, as it aims to balance the need for more housing with the preservation of surrounding natural areas and the overall quality of life for residents. The community feedback period is crucial in ensuring that the expansion aligns with the community’s vision and needs.
