Colorado Man Dies After Being Bitten By Pet Gila Monster

A tragic incident occurred in Colorado when a man, Christopher Ward, passed away after being bitten by his pet Gila monster. The unsettling event took place on Feb. 12 in the city of Lakewood, where Ward was hospitalized following the bite from one of his two pet lizards.

Reports suggest that Ward’s girlfriend discovered the harrowing scene when she heard unusual sounds and found the Gila monster named Winston latched onto Ward’s hand. Soon after the bite, Ward began experiencing severe symptoms, including repeated vomiting and eventually losing consciousness.

After the distressing incident, Ward was swiftly admitted to the hospital and placed on life support. Tragically, his condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to doctors declaring him brain dead within a matter of days.

Following the incident, Ward’s girlfriend promptly handed over the Gila monsters, Winston and Potato, to Lakewood animal control officers. She revealed that they had acquired Winston at a reptile exhibition in Denver and Potato from a breeder in Arizona.

In compliance with regulations, the lizards were relocated to Reptile Gardens in Rapid City, South Dakota, along with twenty-six spiders of various species. The incident has generated significant attention, with the Associated Press reporting on the unfortunate demise of Christopher Ward.
