Covenant University Tops Nigerian Rankings in Times Higher Education Survey
Covenant University has been awarded the highest rank among Nigerian universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024. This significant achievement underscores its standing as a leader in higher education within the country.
The institution, located in Ota, Nigeria, emerged at the top of the rankings, surpassing other prestigious Nigerian universities such as the University of Ibadan, the Federal University of Technology Akure, and the University of Lagos, which placed second, third, and fourth respectively.
This year’s rankings evaluated 1,907 universities across 108 countries based on 18 performance indicators divided into five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry income, and international outlook. This comprehensive survey involved a detailed analysis of more than 16.5 million research publications and over 134 million citations, alongside feedback from more than 68,000 scholars worldwide.
The rankings not only highlighted Covenant University’s domination but also reflected changes in the global academic landscape. Other Nigerian institutions making it to the top ten include Bayero University, the University of Ilorin, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Afe Babalola University. The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, rounded off the top ten.
The full list of top-ranked Nigerian universities also features prominent names including Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lagos State University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Obafemi Awolowo University, and many more. This ranking places Nigerian universities within a global context, demonstrating both the strengths and areas for potential growth in the country’s higher education sector.
