Disney Pushes for Oscar Nominations for Thunderbolts and More
BURBANK, Calif. — Marvel movies have a strong fan base and perform well at the box office, but they often struggle to earn awards recognition. Aside from the two Black Panther films, which won accolades for Best Original Score, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design, most Marvel titles receive little attention during Awards Season.
This year, Disney is aiming to change that with its upcoming release of Thunderbolts. The studio has unveiled a list of categories in which it seeks nominations, including Best Picture. If acknowledged, Marvel President Kevin Feige would receive the prestigious award.
Other categories include Best Director for Jake Schreier, Best Actress for Florence Pugh, and Best Supporting Actor nominations for Sebastian Stan and Lewis Pullman. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has also been put forth for Best Supporting Actress.
The nominations further extend to Best Casting (Sarah Halley Finn), Best Adapted Screenplay (Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo), Best Cinematography (Andrew Droz Palermo), and Best Costume Design (Sanja Hays).
Additional hopeful categories are Best Film Editing (Angela Catanzaro and Harry Yoon), Best Makeup & Hairstyling (Kimberly Jones and Lane Friedman), Best Original Score (Son Lux), Best Production Design (Grace Run and Gene Serdena), Best Sound (Samson Neslund, Daniel Laurie, Onnalee Blank, Michael Semanick, and Chris Giles), and Best Visual Effects (Jake Morrions, Chad Wiebe, Mat Krentz, and Nikos Kalaitzidis).
The Oscar nominations will be revealed on Thursday, January 22, 2026, and the award ceremony is scheduled for March 15, 2026. Fans are eager to see if these efforts yield results.
