Texas Thunderstorms Weather Report

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A slow-moving storm system is set to bring heavy thunderstorms to Houston this week. As meteorologists track the weather, residents are advised to prepare for potential street flooding and severe conditions.

The storms are expected to arrive around noon on Wednesday after a night of calm weather. Temperatures will warm from the upper 70s to the upper 80s before the rain begins. Winds could gust over 40 mph, and there’s a risk of small hail and lightning.

According to the meteorological team at ABC13, street flooding is the primary concern, but conditions could escalate with the possibility of a brief EF-0 tornado. The weather watch is in effect through Friday, with forecasts predicting 1-3 inches of rainfall throughout the week, and some areas may see over half a foot by Saturday.

Travelers should allow extra time for commutes and look out for flooded roads. If drivers encounter flooded streets, they are urged to take alternate routes. Despite the heavy rain, bayou flooding is currently not anticipated due to the waterways’ capacity to handle increased rainfall.

Looking ahead to the weekend, there are still scattered downpours in the forecast, but the storm system will begin to move away. Rain chances are around 60% for Saturday and 40% for Sunday, with temperatures starting in the mid-70s and rising to the upper 80s.

Forecasters also note that while the Atlantic basin is filled with a Saharan dust cloud limiting tropical storms, the eastern Pacific is active with two named storms off the coast of Mexico. For ongoing updates, residents can check the ABC13 ALERT RADAR MAPS.
