Hulu Orders New ‘Prison Break’ Series Featuring Fresh Cast

LOS ANGELES, CA — Hulu has officially ordered a new series of the popular show ‘Prison Break,’ originally created by Paul Scheuring, which aired on Fox. The reboot was announced on October 20, 2025, and will feature a fresh storyline set in the same universe as the original series, with new characters and a new plot.
The series stars Emily Browning as Cassidy, an ex-soldier who takes a job as a corrections officer at one of America’s deadliest prisons. According to the show’s logline, she does this to demonstrate how far she will go for someone she loves. The cast also includes Drake Rodger as Tommy, Lukas Gage as Jackson, Clayton Cardenas as Michael “Ghost,” JR Bourne as Junior, Georgie Flores as Andrea, and Myles Bullock as Darius “Red.”
Elgin James, co-creator of ‘Mayans M.C.,’ serves as the showrunner, executive producer, writer, and director of the pilot, which was filmed in West Virginia in June 2025. James will work alongside original series executive producers Paul Scheuring, Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz, who have all returned for the project.
The first iteration of ‘Prison Break’ premiered in 2005 and followed Michael Scofield, played by Wentworth Miller, as he orchestrated his brother Lincoln Burrows’ escape from prison after Lincoln was wrongfully accused of murder. The original series ran for four seasons and returned for a limited series in 2017, featuring various cast members including Dominic Purcell, Amaury Nolasco, and Sarah Wayne Callies. The series has had a resurgence in popularity, ranking as the most-streamed series in the U.S. as of August 2024.
Filming for the pilot finished in June 2025, but specific details about the premiere date remain unclear. There have been no confirmations regarding appearances from the original cast, with Miller having previously stated he would not reprise his role.
