India vs Bangladesh 1st Test: Team Selection and Weather Update
The much-anticipated Test series between India and Bangladesh is set to commence on September 19, 2024, in Chennai. Following the recently concluded white-ball series, this two-match Test series presents a new challenge for both teams under the guidance of India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir.
With regards to the team selection for India, the opening partnership is expected to feature Rohit Sharma, who will captain the side, alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. Shubman Gill has been slotted in for the number three position. A lot of attention has been focused on the middle order, and Gautam Gambhir has made it clear that Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel will not be part of the playing eleven for the 1st Test. Instead, KL Rahul and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant are set to take positions in the middle order.
The rest of the squad includes key players like Virat Kohli, R. Ashwin, R. Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah, who are all expected to contribute significantly to the team’s efforts. On the Bangladeshi side, players like Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mushfiqur Rahim will be pivotal in their campaign to beat India for the first time in a Test series.
Historically, India has dominated the Test encounters between these two nations, winning 11 out of the 13 matches played, with two matches ending in a draw. Bangladesh has yet to secure a victory in this format against India.
However, the proceedings might face disruptions due to weather conditions. Forecasts indicate a likelihood of rain on several days of the match in Chennai, with a 46% chance of rain on the first day and a 41% chance on the second day. The conditions are expected to improve slightly, with a 25% chance of rain on the third day, dropping to 13% on the fourth, and rising slightly to 21% on the fifth day.
Fans can watch the live telecast of the match on the Sports 18 network in India, with live streaming available on the Jio Cinema app and website. The first Test is scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM IST, with the toss taking place at 9:00 AM IST.
