Adam Coy Trial Verdict

A jury in Franklin County, Ohio, has reached a verdict in the trial of former Columbus police officer Adam Coy, who was charged with murder and reckless homicide in the shooting death of Andre Hill, a Black man. The trial, which lasted two weeks, concluded on Monday, November 4, 2024, with the verdict expected to be announced shortly.

Adam Coy, a nearly 20-year veteran of the Columbus police force, shot Andre Hill four times in a garage nearly four years ago. Coy testified that he believed Hill was holding a gun, specifically a silver revolver, when he fired. However, police body camera footage showed Hill holding a cellphone in his left hand, with his right hand not visible, seconds before the fatal shooting.

The incident has drawn significant attention due to the delay in medical aid for Hill. Almost 10 minutes passed before officers at the scene began to provide assistance to Hill, who lay bleeding on the garage floor. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Coy was fired from the Columbus police force following the shooting. The case has been closely watched as it raises questions about police use of force and racial disparities in law enforcement).
