FX Orders ‘Far Cry’ Anthology Series Starring Rob Mac and Noah Hawley
LOS ANGELES, CA — FX Networks has officially ordered a series based on Ubisoft‘s popular ‘Far Cry‘ video game franchise. The show, set to stream on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ globally, will feature an anthology format, promising to deliver a new storyline and cast each season.
Rob Mac, also known as Rob McElhenney, will star in the series and serve as an executive producer through his More Better Productions. Noah Hawley, famed for his work on ‘Fargo‘ and ‘Alien: Earth‘, will be the showrunner and executive producer via his company 26 Keys.
“Getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” Mac said. “Ubisoft has been remarkably generous, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created. And through it all, my FX family continues to lift me up with their constant belief and support.”
The first season’s plot details are still under wraps. However, FX confirms that it will capture the essence of the games; each season will explore a different setting and characters, similar to how each game varies while sharing a core theme.
<pHawley shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “What I love about the 'Far Cry' game franchise is it’s an anthology. Each game is a variation of a theme, the same way each season of 'Fargo' is a variation on a theme. To create a big action show that can change from year to year, while always exploring the nature of humanity through this complex and chaotic lens is a dream come true.”
FX’s Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, expressed confidence in the collaboration, noting, “I have no doubt that they will tell this story in a way that is original, gripping and wildly entertaining. We also want to thank our partners at Ubisoft for entrusting us with this beloved property.”
Since the release of the first ‘Far Cry’ game in 2004, the franchise has amassed over 100 million players. The most recent title, ‘Far Cry 6’, launched in 2021, featuring notable performances and open-world gameplay.
Production details reveal that Hawley and Mac are joined by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, alongside Ubisoft Film & Television executives Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill.
This announcement marks the first live-action adaptation of ‘Far Cry’ for television, after a previous film release in 2008 and an animated series in 2023.
