Sonia Gandhi To Contest Rajya Sabha Elections From Rajasthan

Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi is set to file her nomination for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, with political speculations pointing towards her representing Rajasthan. The decision is expected to be finalized tonight, although Sonia Gandhi, accompanied by Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, will officially file her nomination tomorrow.

Rajasthan emerges as a prominent choice for Sonia Gandhi, given that a seat in the state has recently become vacant due to the retirement of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. While other state units have extended nominations, Rajasthan seems to be the frontrunner.

Recently, the Madhya Pradesh Congress unit also requested Sonia Gandhi to consider representing the state in the Rajya Sabha. Additionally, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy proposed that Sonia Gandhi contest the Lok Sabha elections from Khammam, acknowledging her significant role in the formation of Telangana.

Sonia Gandhi, a seasoned politician and a five-time Lok Sabha MP, has traditionally represented the Rae Bareli constituency since 2004, a seat previously held by Feroze Gandhi and Indira Gandhi. In the last Lok Sabha elections, Sonia Gandhi secured a significant victory with 55.80% of the votes in Rae Bareli, despite a decline in her vote share.

The unfolding scenario in Rajasthan, with Sonia Gandhi potentially entering the Rajya Sabha from the state, comes at a critical time for the Congress party, especially after the defeat of Rahul Gandhi in Amethi against Smriti Irani in the last general elections. The political landscape in Rajasthan is set for an interesting turn with this upcoming development.
