Successful Pulse Polio Immunisation Drive In Puducherry And Surrounding Districts

On a recent Sunday, Puducherry and its surrounding districts witnessed a successful Pulse Polio Immunisation Drive, with over 80,000 children up to the age of five receiving crucial polio drops.

The campaign, which saw the setup of 455 polio booths across the Union Territory, was inaugurated by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy at the Thillaiyadi Valliammai Government Higher Secondary School in Kathirkamam.

A senior officer from the Directorate of Health and Family Services highlighted that all children, regardless of prior vaccination, were administered the polio vaccine during this drive.

Following the initial campaign day, health teams are conducting house-to-house visits on Monday and Tuesday to ensure all children are covered.

In Villupuram district, over one lakh children and more than 2 lakh children in Cuddalore district were given polio drops, while over 1 lakh children in Kallakurichi district also received the vaccination.

The immunisation drive in Villupuram saw the participation of more than 12,000 individuals, including noon-meal staff, government officials, and members of Rotary Clubs.

The extensive programme kicked off simultaneously at various healthcare facilities and educational institutions, ensuring a comprehensive coverage of the targeted age group.
