Justin Bingham Zion National Park Accident

Justin Bingham, the CEO of Utah-based software company Opiniion, died in a tragic accident while canyoneering in Zion National Park, Utah, on October 5, 2024. This was confirmed by the National Park Service (NPS) on October 7, 2024. Bingham was 40 years old and a resident of Lindon, Utah.

According to the NPS, Bingham was exploring the Heaps Canyon area with three friends when the accident occurred. It was reported that he fell approximately 150 to 200 feet near the canyon’s exit. Despite the swift response from the Zion National Park Technical Search and Rescue Team and emergency medical care provided at the scene, Bingham was pronounced dead. “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family and friends during this unimaginably difficult time,” stated Zion National Park Superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh.

Opiniion, a company providing property management solutions, released a statement expressing their grief over Bingham’s death. “Justin was involved in a tragic accident while enjoying one of his greatest passions — exploring the outdoors,” the statement read. The company highlighted Bingham’s visionary leadership and commitment to building genuine relationships. “His spirit of adventure and dedication to living life fully will be deeply missed,” the statement continued.

Devin Shurtleff, Co-Founder and COO of Opiniion, remembered Bingham as an “eternal optimist” and noted that his impact on both the company and the people he worked with was profound. “Justin wasn’t just a leader here at Opiniion — he was a mentor, a dad, and a friend to many of us,” Shurtleff added.

Bingham is survived by his wife, Lindsay, and their four children. The family runs a blog titled “Our Life in Holland,” where they share their personal experiences, including their son Landon‘s treatment for cerebral palsy. The blog has garnered a significant online following.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is working in conjunction with Zion National Park to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding Bingham’s fall. Meanwhile, Opiniion has asked for privacy and understanding for Bingham’s family during this period of mourning, pledging to continue his legacy through their ongoing work and relationships.
