Alibaba Cloud Expands in Southeast Asia with New Data Centers

BEIJING, China – Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing division of Alibaba Group, announced on Tuesday the opening of its third data center in Malaysia and plans for a second data center in the Philippines by October.
This expansion aims to enhance Alibaba Cloud’s capability to meet the increasing global demand for secure and scalable cloud services, the company stated.
Selina Yuan, president of international business at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, highlighted these developments during a global summit event in Singapore where the new Malaysian data center was launched. While details on financial investment and capacity for the new facilities were not disclosed, Yuan emphasized that these efforts follow previous infrastructure investments made in Mexico and South Korea earlier this year.
The company is positioning itself to adapt as artificial intelligence adoption grows in various industries. In addition to the new data centers, Alibaba Cloud launched its first AI Global Competency Center (AIGCC) in Singapore, aiming to support over 5,000 businesses and train 100,000 developers annually.
The AIGCC will feature more than ten AI agents spanning sectors such as finance, healthcare, and energy to showcase AI’s potential.
Alongside the infrastructure expansion, Alibaba Cloud has upgraded its Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings, including a new real-time data streaming service. The updated offerings include enhanced AI inference capabilities to accommodate complex models and large-scale deployments.
Alibaba Cloud’s ninth-generation Enterprise Elastic Compute Service (ECS) will also hit additional global markets this month, including Japan and the UK. Furthermore, the company introduced a new ESG Reporting solution through its Energy Expert sustainability platform, utilizing its proprietary large language model Qwen to produce automated ESG reports.
