New Dgp For Jammu And Kashmir Police Appointed

The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced a significant change in the leadership of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Indian Police Service officer Nalin Prabhat has been appointed as the Special Director General (SDG), a position he’ll hold until he officially takes over as the Director General of Police (DGP) on October 1.

Nalin Prabhat, who hails from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, will be taking this role at a critical time for the region. He is set to succeed R.R. Swain, the current DGP, who will retire on September 30 after a storied career that included handling sensitive positions during and after the challenging times in J&K.

Prabhat is known for his extensive experience in dealing with insurgency in Kashmir, having previously served in various key roles, including Deputy Inspector General in South Kashmir. His track record has earned him respect from security forces and even commendations from former Chief Ministers for his effective handling of militancy.

Recently, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed an increase in terrorist activities, with multiple encounters reported since June. The new DGP’s strategic approach to law enforcement will be closely watched as the region continues to face threats from militants trained in guerrilla warfare.

The appointment comes after a turbulent period marked by violence, with several fatalities among both soldiers and civilians in recent months. In response to this, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has called for meetings to address the rising incidents of terror in the area.
