Pierce Brosnan Hints at Doctor Fate Role in Superman Sequel
LOS ANGELES, CA — Pierce Brosnan has indicated his willingness to reprise his role as Doctor Fate in the upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow, a sequel to the recent DC Studios reboot. In an interview, Brosnan expressed interest in portraying Kent Nelson, the iconic superhero, after previously appearing as the character in the 2022 movie, Black Adam, which starred Dwayne Johnson.
“I’ve heard that Doctor Fate was going to have his own show or movie. I’ve heard that he’s going to be in the next Superman,” Brosnan stated. When asked about returning to the role, he said, “I enjoyed that, the philosophy of that character, very much, and I would definitely be open to it.”
Director James Gunn announced on September 17 that Man of Tomorrow will be released on July 9, 2027. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are set to reprise their roles as Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, respectively. Little details about the film have been revealed, but Gunn hinted at Doctor Fate’s involvement through a Hall of Justice mural in the upcoming Superman movie.
During a podcast, Gunn mentioned, “I think Doctor Fate’s in there,” adding that significant thought went into designing the mural. In a separate interview with Rolling Stone, he confirmed plans for various characters featured in the mural, stating, “Not necessarily specifically see all of them, but yes, some of them we already have in the works in different things in different ways.”
DC Studios has other projects lined up, with Supergirl scheduled to debut on June 26, 2026, and Clayface set for September 11, 2026. Man of Tomorrow is part of a broader reset for the DC Cinematic Universe led by Gunn and co-head Peter Safran. The first rebooted Superman film, which premiered on July 11, 2025, grossed $125 million in its opening weekend and has surpassed $300 million at the domestic box office.
