Washington D.c. Weather Storms

WASHINGTON – A coastal storm is set to bring showers and thunderstorms to the Washington, D.C. area this Tuesday, with cool temperatures in the low-70s. FOX 5’s Taylor Grenda stated that while it won’t be a washout, the region will experience periods of rain and storms throughout the evening and overnight.

The storm system will likely keep the area wet for much of Tuesday and into Wednesday, with high temperatures remaining in the upper-60s to low-70s. Areas south of D.C. are anticipated to see steadier rainfall throughout the day.

The National Weather Service reports that this low-pressure system could bring 4 to 8 inches of rain to parts of the Mid-Atlantic, including eastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia. Additionally, rough surf and dangerous rip currents could affect beach communities from North Carolina to New Jersey.

As the storm continues to move, it is forecasted to stall over eastern Virginia to eastern North Carolina into Wednesday. Forecasters suggest that this prolonged heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding, especially in susceptible areas.

A mix of cloud cover and breezy conditions will hover over the D.C. area through Wednesday, with intermittent sprinkles and showers projected from southeast to northwest. “Some areas, particularly from D.C. to the northwest, may not see much rain,” added the Capital Weather Gang.

Residents of Northern Virginia and D.C. can expect northeast winds of 10 to 20 mph, leading to gusts reaching 35 mph, especially east of Interstate 95. Showers are likely to persist into Wednesday night, with potential rainfall totaling between 0.25 to 1.25 inches, according to forecasts.

The storm system should clear by Thursday morning, allowing temperatures to rise into the upper-80s by the start of the weekend, providing a much-needed break after the heavy rains.
